Our marriage felt impossible to repair, so I tried fixing everything else. I would wake each morning thinking, What can I do, eat, or buy that will make me feel happy today?
– In the quest for a more organized life, I bought new pretty containers, planners, and pens.
– I loaded my shelves with books promising a formula for quick-fix happiness.
– Maybe getting fit would solve everything, so I purchased new running shoes and a gym membership.
– Perhaps more creativity would be the thing that brought me joy, so I got journals and craft supplies.
– When I felt emotionally drained, I reached to comfort food, social media, and shopping.
– I acquired new cookbooks, clothes, subscriptions, throw pillows, and plants.
Those poor plants. I’ve killed a lot of plants in my life.
But the most life-changing things in life aren’t things.
God’s grace is real and it transforms our mess into rich growing ground.

Your book “Make It Happen” is literally changing my life as I read the pages, like real time Jesus here. I bought the book months ago as a discounted bundle with the powersheets. I was so excited to dig in when I got it but for some reason I just never got around to reading it until now. (I didn’t know it but that was God saying “not yet, this will mean more to you later”. His timing is perfect!) I had plenty of time to read it but for some reason God was saying wait until you go on vacation with your boyfriend and his family to begin reading it. Oh boy was that perfect timing! God knows when we are ready to receive and he waits to give. It’s like when you have amazing news to tell someone or a special gift for them, but if you wake them up in the middle of the night when they are exhausted and cranky and try to give it to them, they probably won’t react the way you want them to…they would be much more excited if you waited until a better time. I open this book and I immediately feel God’s presence and guidance. I am easily distracted and need total peace and quiet to focus but there are times when I can’t put the book down no matter what’s going on around me (that’s God saying “Stefanie you need this more than anything right now”). And then all of a sudden I can’t turn the page and no matter how much I want to keep reading I seem to hit a wall and that is God saying “Okay let’s put this into action and make some things happen”. I am in awe. You wrote this book for me! Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart and thank you Jesus for Lara Casey! Here is not a single page of my book that doesn’t have something circled, underlined, or arrows everywhere! What you preach about “making a mess” has truly helped me engage with this book.

My most favorite “resource” for cultivating my faith? Consistency. This means waking up every morning, pouring my cup of coffee, and curling up with my Bible, journal, and whatever nonfiction Christian book I’m reading at the moment. And while it doesn’t mean there isn’t grace for missing a day, it does mean that there is fruit in obedience, fruit in showing up even when don’t feel like it, fruit in trusting that God’s word truly never does return void.

Favorite resource to cultivate my faith- writing out my prayers in my journal! Keeps me intentional and my mind focused instead of wandering off on bunny trails. I can look back and see how much I’ve grown, and how faithful God is in answering!

I have been praying with and encouraging a dear friend going through a very very difficult time in her marriage (including sharing your story and posts!).

When I first started getting personal about my faith, I read my Bible with a pad of sticky notes. When I had a question or thought about a passage, I would write it down on a sticky and put it right there with the passage. It helped me really think critically instead of just glaze over it all.
Now that I’m a mom of two small children, the First 5 App is often the only way I get devotion time in. Sometimes I even read in the bathroom while waiting for the shower to heat up, or sitting in my car before going into work.-

Oh my, feel you so much on this! Since last November things have felt like a wilderness to us and we are still in it. Just feels like lots of walking around in circles with no full insight into which way is out. Was having a conversation with my mom about it the other day and she reminded me: God lead the Israelites into the wilderness, it wasn’t an accident that they got there but it was by His leading.

Wow! What an incredible set of encouraging things and just in writing this comment now I am encouraged because 1 John 4:18 (at the bottom of the screen) has been on my heart for the past few days as i’ve been battling anxiety. One big way that I cultivate faith is in sitting down with a sweet friend and just recounting all the ways God has been good to us, fostering an attitude of gratitude which fights off feelings of discontentment and entitlement (which are very easy to fall into!) Thank you Lara for allowing Jesus to use you to encourage others, including myself! Thankful for you!

I recently joined an Anglican church and have been loving the book of common prayer. The combination of prayer and Scripture for morning and evening, plus the idea that people have prayed these same prayers for years and years – very powerful.
