July Progress and August PowerSheets Goals

When August days are hot an’ dry,
When burning copper is the sky,
I’d rather fish than feast or fly
In airy realms serene and high.
Paul Laurence Dunbar

I’d rather be fishin’ or out in the garden! 🙂 What a month out here! We’ve picked at least 1,000 tomatoes and marveled at the monarchs we released this month. It was so fun to watch them transform from a caterpillar into what God created them to be. We spent a lot of afternoons at the pool, made pickles from our garden goodies, and took a trip to see my parents and brother in Florida—our first visit with them since the pandemic. It was extra special. I cried when I hugged my mom!

Here’s a quick look back at the month in goals:

July Monthly Goals:
— Help people to thrive! / Progress. I’m doing a team training on this in September as well.
— Recite my four (refreshed!) goals each day. / Yes, I faithfully did this up to our trip to Florida and it helped me make decisions in the direction of my goals. Sometimes we have really good meaningful goals and we simply forget them. Recitation and memorization help to move goals to action and reality!
— Pray / Yes, lots of prayer and fruit from those prayers. I am grateful for a God who hears, knows, and sees us.

July Weekly Goals:
— Read aloud to our kids at dinner / Yes! Having the book right there waiting made it easy.
— Read Psalms and Matthew at night / This has been my favorite thing. There were definitely nights I was tired and considered not doing it, but I pushed through and was SO grateful I did! The Word is alive and active. It refreshed my soul more than any sleep could.
— Weights – strength training 3x week / YESSS!!! I have finally found a groove here and I’m really excited about it. Nothing fancy here – some resistance bands attached to a door handle in my house.

July Daily Goals: I made progress on all of these and God made progress on humbling me :).
— Bible reading
— Humility
— Strength
— Belief
— Breath

— Enjoy the garden and share our garden treasures with neighbors.
— Prepare for the new school year. We have some back-to-school shopping to do and lots to prep for Kindergarten. You might also love Emily’s post about Kindergarten prep.

My power sheets haven’t arrived yet (they just got ordered Thursday, along with books, eek!! 🥳) So I haven’t officially set any goals but I have all kinds of ideas rattling around in my head after listening to your amazing podcast episodes! I can NOT wait to get them! There is nothing special about January 1st, I can start goals in August, right?!? 🤣🙈

Thank you so much Lara and for everything you do! After the last year, God brought your wisdom and insight at a time I am needing it most! While I am waiting for my Power Sheets, I already went ahead and made a huge step towards my ideas in my head of being more present and having more fun with my boys! So I got rid of my iPhone and replaced it with a flip phone! Haha!! 😉 It is going to be a bit of an adjustment but God has been pushing me towards this for months but I have been too scared to take the plunge! But listening to you really just puts things into perspective and I don’t have time to waste on my device, I have always wanted to be a fun, nurturing, present momma and my phone was not helping me to do that, it was doing the opposite! So bye bye iPhone, hello to a less distracted mind and more lighthearted soul! 🙂

Leslie! I LOVE THIS! I actually just said to Ari the other day that I was considering doing the same. I am so encouraged by you and cheering you on!

Oh man Lara, I am shocked at the difference in my mind and soul! I am a stay at home mom so I don’t absolutely NEED a smart phone, I can do without one. But it has been an adjustment, I am not going to lie! Lol! 😉 But after only a few days I have not once thought that I wanted it back, I truly can’t put into words how different my days go with my sweet boys without that distraction! You will have to keep us posted if take the plunge and feel it is the right move for you and your family!
My power sheets came yesterday, and I may have done a little dance! 😀 I can’t wait to dig in and get to work when we go on an extended vacation in the coming weeks!! Eeeekkk, so excited!! 😀
