2014 GOAL SETTING, PART 3: 2014 VISION

,

Happy New Year’s Eve, friends!  Ari, Gracie and I are flying from Miami (after a wonderful visit with his family — his dad’s first time meeting Grace!) to Pensacola shortly to see my parents, brother and Grandma Bunny (who turned 97 yesterday — wow!).  I’m so grateful and excited to ring in a new year with them!  I hope your plans tonight include celebrating the great things in 2013 and that the past is behind us, giving way to a fresh new start.  Thank you, Lord!  Anyone else ready for a fresh start?

If you just stumbled on my blog today, welcome.  This may say “Part 3” above, but you are not too late to join us.  It’s never too late to begin and there are lots of folks just getting started today, too : )  Here are the links to the previous posts below:

Part 1: Let’s Do This!
Part 2: Get Fired Up.  Here are my answers from Part 2 below.

LARA-CASEY-WHAT-I-LEARNED

What I learned from what worked:

1. God is fully in control and He loves us all deeply.  His purposes prevailed this last year.  My selfish pursuits did not.

2. God has a very good plan, even when I can’t see the final outcome.  I need to trust His plans ALWAYS and not try to control everything.  He has this.

3. The Bible is truly the only source of wisdom for all aspects of life.  Nothing else compares.  I was changed more in reading the Bible and being still (so hard sometimes) and praying this year than anything else.

What I learned from what didn’t work:

1. All of the above  : )  And that our days on they earth are very short.  They feel shorter and shorter lately.  I learned — and am learning — that I have to keep my heart focused on Him or I get way off track.

2. I am weak.  I am so weak sometimes.  I need Him to fill up all those places I can’t make whole on my own.  When I stay focused on His glory and not mine, He leads me so clearly.

3. Lastly, I learned that I can’t do it all and that’s OK.  Sometimes it’s better to pass the torch so more leaders can be born and grow.  Dear self: pass the torch more!

What fires me up:

(just a few of the many things)

  • Writing the things above and just being real about where I need to grow — being humbled — fires me up.  I feel closest to God when I am humbled.
  • Our mission at Southern Weddings — and in all we do — fires me up beyond words.
  • Music fires me up.  I am typing this listening to Oceans on repeat again.
  • A crazy good workout where I feel my lungs burning and my muscles hot.
  • Clean air.  Clean water.  These are gifts I’m trying to learn to not take for granted.
  • A shared moment or conversation with Ari where I remember and feel our shared heart.  We’ve had a lot of those lately.  That shared heart was born of a man who died on a cross so we could be free.  So we could forgive each other.  So we could be forgiven.  So we could be completely washed in grace and made new and whole again.  That heart is the greatest gift we’ve been given. It saved our marriage and changed who we are as people.
  • Watching Grace sing any song ever, Grace looking at me right in the eyes to tell me something, Grace laughing, Grace saying new sentences or asking me silly questions…  she fires me up.
  • Doing pirouettes in my living room.  That was for you, Katie : )  The best part is that, lately, Grace asks to do them too.  She can’t quite get the mechanics, but I hold her and twirl her around.  Melt my soul.
  • Grace praying spontaneously.  Truly amazing.  This is one of my favorite images from the entire year and from, well, ever.
  • My friends who love the Lord and do things about it.  There are too many of you to name.  The fact that I know so many truly amazing women fires me up in itself.  Thank you all for loving Him and being a light in my life.
  • Getting things done, stepping into fear, saying no — that all fires me up!
  • The ocean (so I took Grace yesterday!), seeing people change, baptisms (I cry every single time), singing in church with my family, solitude, writing, creating, the ladies I work with, Meredith, my family, hugs, the smell of pine, snow, farm animals (namely chickens!), flowers, white lilies, gardening, cooking, singing to God, slow dancing with Ari in the kitchen… I could go on but I will stop there for now : )

Speaking of what fires me up, I love surprises!  So, I made you a little something fun for your New Year’s Eve : ) The 2014 Letter to Your Amazing Self!  And haha – anyone see the typo in this letter?  That’s what I get for not having Emily Thomas around all week to proofread for me!

Print this out, share it, pin it — download it full size HERE — and maybe even give a copy or email one to your BFF’s to fill out, too!   Have fun.  I’ll share mine tomorrow too : )

LARA-CASEY-GOAL-SETTING-PART-2---STEP-7

OK! Onto the next steps!

STEP 7: What is your 2013 VISION?  To quote my friend Mitch, “You need to have a vision for where you are as a person. Everyone ends up somewhere, but few end up somewhere on purpose. You have to have a focus. Focus helps you know what NOT to focus on. If you have a vision, when times are tough (and they will be), it gives you peace and hope and passion to move forward.”

Where there is no vision, the people perish. (Proverbs 29:18)

Traditional goals get forgotten and they can be overwhelming if they aren’t connected to what matters. They can make life busier. I don’t want a new to-do list for 2014, I want a PATH. Goals with a solid, well thought-out vision behind them HAPPEN. They simplify life. And, as I found out this year, the clearer my vision gets, the more good I see in life and the more good happens for other people, too.

lara casey goal setting 2014 is the year i

Write out your 2014 Vision.  You can do this in whatever way you feel most connected to.  A few questions you can choose from to get you writing:

  • What kind of life do you want to live this year?
  • Where do you want to be when you’re 80?
  • WHY do you do what you do?
  • What is your mission?
  • What is your CORE?
  • If you could envision your best year yet, what does that look like?
  • 2014 is the year I (fill in your blank): _______

I will share mine tomorrow! Post your 2014 Vision here in the comments so we can inspire and cheer each other on!

lara-casey-goal-setting-NO-list

STEP 8: Here’s where things get fun. You now know what did work over the last twelve months, what didn’t work and what fires you up. You learned some very valuable lessons in all of this. You are starting to see the bigger picture and have a VISION for your year ahead. So, what is NOT in that vision?  Make a list of all of the things that are holding you back (or could potentially hold you back) from making this vision come to life this year. Write your list of what you are saying NO to in 2014.

LARA-CASEY-GOAL-SETTING-YES-LIST

STEP 9: With everything you have written down thus far in mind (I suggest reading over all of your progress again), what are you going to need to say YES to more often in order to make your vision come to life? Write your list of what you are saying YES to in 2014. Dream big, here, and write down the things you are afraid to dive into, too. There is great potential hiding in your fear. I encourage you to post your YES List publicly here and/or share it with friends to help inspire others and to keep yourself accountable. I think you will all likely NOT be writing Facebook or more social media on this list. Just a guess.

–> PowerSheets owners, the step numbers in the rest of this series won’t match what you have in your sheets, as you have more steps! : ) Exclusive new printables just for PowerSheets friends will come in the PowerSheets webinar on January 15th, too!

LARA-CASEY-GOAL-SETTING-WORD-FOR-2014

BONUS STEP! Pick a core word for 2014. What one word really resonates with you for the coming year?  What word pulls together all that you want to make happen?  Think hard about this. I’ll share mine tomorrow too.  Research words that resonate with you.  Pray on it.  Then, write your word here in the comments (and give a virtual high five to those who might have the same word as you — we are bound to have some shared words!). Then, write that word in prominent places so you are reminded of your focus this year.  Put it on a post it in your car.  Put it on a post it literally inside of your fridge (I have a post it in my fridge!). Make it your computer desktop.  Write it anywhere and everywhere to remind you of where you are going!

Speaking of going, we’re off to Pensacola!  Happy New Year’s Eve, dear friends!  While this is the last day of a calendar year, it has the potential to also be the START of your best year yet.  Start well.  Let’s do this!

  1. Happy 2014!! My word for 2014 is LEGACY. All my decisions, goals and plans are based in this word.

    • Lara on at

Oh you are going to love the next post : )

  2. Suzie on at

Goodbye 2013, Hello 2014!!! My core word for 2014 is PURPOSE. My goal is that all of my actions are thought out and purposeful.

    • Suzie,
I also choose Purpose! For me it was a little scary because it’s kind of a heavy word, but I know that it’s the right one. Here’s to a wonderful and purposeful year.

  3. Kyla Fetzner on at

Happy (almost) New Year!! I hope you all have an incredible night and that you have safe travels Lara 🙂 My core word for 2014 is INTENTION. I want to be more intentional about seeking God, encouraging others, making good use of my time , doing more of what I love, and setting my intention at the start of each day so that I remember what matters most rather than getting overwhelmed and distracted by the busy or messy parts of life.

    • Ditto! Looking up the different definitions, synonyms and antonyms was so good!

    • Kyla F on at

Yay Dana! Such a good word. Everyone’s words are great! Choosing a core word is such a good way to maintain focus and have a target to come back to when things get turbulent 🙂

  4. Nicki on at

Similar to Kyla, my word for 2014 is Intentional. I purchased the PowerSheets for part of this word purpose as well. I want everything I do in 2014 to be Intentional. I want my words and actions to truly be for the right reasons. Part of that is to be intentional with my relationship with God…it’s been rocky the last few years and I truly aim to spend more time with him and in the Bible this coming year. I also tend to stay in my cozy comfort zone and I need to intentionally push myself out of that zone as that’s the only way I’ll grow.

  5. Em on at

My word for 2014 is Simplify. I need to get back to the simple things in life. To say NO to the things/people/thoughts that are getting I. The way of Gods BEST. In 2014 I am saying NO to excess, stress, distractions, unrealistic expectations,pride.. And I am saying YES to margin, grace, authenticity, simplicity, thanksgiving, boundaries and really LIVING the abundant life we are called to (John 10:10 is my verse for the year).

    • mal on at

Same here! My key word is: Simplicity. I don’t have a verse yet, but I love the quote, “live simply so that others may simply live.”

  6. Hey Lara! Happy New 2014 to you and your family! My word for 2014 is CHANGE. I am planning to do things differently, let go of the past and move forward into the new. For 2014 and beyond I want to live all of my Pinterest boards. I want to experience, learn, grow, do and be. May everyone be blessed in the coming year. Love you!
My 2014 Pinterest Board is http://www.pinterest.com/beingmts/2014-change/

  7. My vision for 2014… “Get it Right”

  8. My word for 2014 is POSSIBLE. 🙂 I want to really live my life this year believing that ALL THINGS are possible with Him. And I want to be excited about the possibilities He has for me in2014. I have some areas of unbelief I know I need to work out in my heart, and I want this to be the year I fully conquer those areas!

While I’m still working on my finalized vision, here’s what I’m saying YES to in 2014:
Holy yoga; reading good books; healthy, fresh foods; focused prayer/quiet time; seeing the possibilities in each day; exercising regularly; lots of creative collaborations; new adventures (and writing about/photographing them); learning more about hand lettering and typography; engaging in my city’s art community; dating intentionally; art journals/making more art on a regular basis; coffee dates; celebrating my life and story (and helping others do the same!)

I’ll share my vision as soon as it’s ready! 🙂

My word for 2014 is FLOURISH. You know, last year’s word was Growth, and I do feel like I’ve grown (2012 felt very much like “stuck”) but now I want to bloom, I want my life to feel like Spring! I’ll be doing this 2014 Pinterest board thing today!

    • Thina on at

FLOURISH is also my word for 2014! I have great plans, ideas and intentions that need to be birthed. Also, we’re about to welcome a baby and my prayer for the baby and our family is that we all FLOURISH 🙂

  11. Sarah Teeter on at

Here is my heart on paper! Happy New Year’s Eve!

Free. Gratitude. Feel. Love. In 2014 I want to live a life that is focused on the day given to me. To look at each new day as a gift and one not be wasted. I will not place my value in worldly success, but instead cherish the slowness and purposefulness of each day. This means snuggling our newborn (coming in one month!!) without a phone in hand, during nap time reading and filling myself back up instead of checking email, and fellowshipping with others in person instead of browsing social media. This means I will live each day instead of worrying or trying to control. In 2014 I will be closer to God, free in His never ending love and grace and spending time in prayer and His word. I will have an attitude of increased gratitude, because I am blessed with so, so much. I will feel life… from a tiny hand clenching my finger, to my first kiss from our baby, to my husband’s touch, and the sweet nudging of a wet puppy dog nose. I will play outside and raise food from the dirt, pick flowers for our home, run in the foothills, hike into alpine lakes and feel nature. In 2014 I will love and serve others from moments with my family, to helping someone in need, and using photography as a way to love on another family. And I will also love myself with grace, remembering that my foundation is in God. 2014 is the year I am free to live the life I have dared to dream. My word for 2014 is free.

  12. Well, it keeps coming back to me, so that tells me that this is the word: FEARLESS. So much of how I lived life in 2013 was dictated by fear. I did not life life authentically to who I am and I have been quite convicted of this in the last couple of weeks, so I have committed 2014 to living fearlessly.

I can’t remember if I posted a link to my Making Things Happen Pinterest board, so here it is: https://www.pinterest.com/jessikolouri/making-things-happen-in-2014/

    Happy New Year, everyone!! xoxo

I CHOOSE to make 2014 fabulous!!!

    • Janelle on at

I had discover written down as my word for 2014, but as soon as I saw this Meredith, I knew CHOOSE was right for me, too! So much of what I want 2014 to be is based around making choices. Thank you for the inspiration! I hope you choose to make this your best year yet! 🙂

Love that photo of Grace too. It is just too sweet!

Just got some amazing news yesterday. 2014 is going to be an amazing year. Can’t wait to start Part 3 of this series! Thank you for making goal setting so relevant. This is so much better than just making a long list of To Do’s for the year with no real purpose or path.

  23. Mirelis Heal on at

My word for 2014 is DO. Do more of what matters and makes a difference to others, and my life. Do more of the simply things that mean the most to people. Simple is More. Blessings everyone, for a beautiful, love-filled, encouraged, successful 2014.

  24. Emily on at

My word for 2014 is OBEDIENCE. I completed the line “2014 will be the year I…. ” with “wake up to the purposes of God and what He has already called me to do.” So many of my struggles in 2013 come from guilt in that I am not truly obeying in the things I know I should – such as intentionality with others, prayer, time in the word, fitness, being joyful, practicing contentment. So, this year I am choosing OBEDIENCE.

  25. Carly on at

My word for 2014 is FOCUS. Taking the time to be consciously purposefull in everything I am doing…quiet time for myself, conversations with friends/family, my work, building a MARRIAGE with my fiancé Jason. Life happens in the insignificant moments. Just keep swimming…

    • Lara on at

Yay for marriage!!! So excited for you!

    • Elizabeth on at

My word is also focus, I struggled all day to find my word. I was wishing I could focus and figure it out when duh, it was right there all along.

  26. meredith s. on at

This is my first time to your blog…..and for the first time in a long time I feel inspired for this new year!

Also– my word(s) for this year are “Gather & Pour”. I want to spend more time gathering with people and using that time to pour into them.

    • Lara on at

So happy to have you here and so grateful you are inspired!

    I tweeted! https://twitter.com/korymae/status/418055250940264448

My word for 2014 is courage. In business and my personal life I’m challenging myself to have the courage to be honest with myself and others on how I’m doing ( business ) and how I’m feeling ( personal ).

    • My word is different but in the same vein: Brave 🙂 Let us both be brave and courageous this year, Kory 🙂

  28. Alicia Daw on at

My word for 2014 is INTENTIONAL. I want to be so much more intentional about pursuing the heart of Jesus and, in doing so, pursue the dreams he’s laid on my heart and the people he’s placed in my life. 2013 was a fantastic year but it was so incredibly busy (got married, business grew by 50%, etc) that it is all just a blur. I will NOT allow that to be my 2014. Better love of Jesus, better wife, better sister, better friend, better employer, better business owner, better me.

  29. Maghon on at

Happy New Year! My word for 2014 was going to be thrive and when I looked up synonyms, I found flourish! Since I am a new calligrapher, that just had to be my word! In 2014 I will FLOURISH in love, life, business an my relationship with God!

  30. Erika on at

    Still working/praying about my word….

    But..I will say “yes” to:
    1. Putting myself “out-there” in unfamiliar territory.
    2. Say “yes” to opportunities and not let fear drive my decisions!!
    3. Change!
    4. Becoming who God made me to be!
    5. More Photography!
    6. Accountability through this series and through my accountability group–but specifically with these intentions in mind!

  31. Lara, I’m a fairly new follower, but love your posts. Thanks for sharing your heart and pushing others toward Jesus.

  32. I have been pondering what my 2014 word will be over the last month (been working through what happened this year and what I want for next year for the whole month) and yesterday–BOOM–it hit me : PURPOSEFUL is my 2014. Full of intention, doing things on purpose and for a reason. Now, I just have to carry through all the planning and make 2014 MINE. Thanks, Lara!

  33. Laura on at

My word for 2014 is Fulfill. I want to trust that the Lord is going to fulfill every promise He has made. I want to remember that HE is the ONLY thing that truly does fulfill me! I want to fulfill promises that I have made to myself and find the things that fulfill my life, not wasteful things.

My word is POSITIVE or +. I have so many things I can complain about, but when I start to celebrate what I do have and list the positives things go better, I am a nicer, happier person, and the bad things don’t feel so overwhelming. Perfect for life with a budding toddler and a household of chronic illness. Just today we had the best dance party ever and it was awesome!

    • Bobbie on at

I really LOVE your “No” list, Made me think of many things for me to say no to as well.

  38. Meghann on at

I always pick a word or theme for the year! It helps set the tone for my goals and plans for the year. It is usually something that I’ve realized I need to work on or something that continually keeps coming up in my day-to-day life. My two words for 2014 are KINDNESS and ADVENTURE! Can’t wait to see how 2014 turns out! 🙂

  39. Casey on at

This uear I am purposefully keeping my YES list simple! YES to my marriage, YES to my sweet 3 year old, YES to our new addition due in March, YES to my business, YES to meaningful friendships and YES to the direction and path He is providing me! Everything else, you’re just not that important this year.

My word for 2014 is Trust. Trusting God and His plan. Not being driven by fear and doubt.

  42. kristen on at

I couldn’t choose between them. So my word(s) for 2014 are FREE and STRENGTH. The best year I have ever had was in 2005 when I moved out of my parents house and was on my own. I felt so free. I wore a butterfly ring every day to remind myself that I had the wings to take me anywhere I wanted to go, I just needed to believe it myself. And I had the freedom to be myself and not conform to society or what others thought. And boy did I soar that year! I am putting that ring back on my right hand for all of 2014. And strength because the business I am launching is all about encouraging “strength is beauty” and I really want to live out that word all year long. Strength to say yes, strength to say no, and also strength mentally, physically , emotionally, and most of all spiritually!

I LOVE this post! It fires me up. I’m not 100% sure of my vision yet, but I know it involves a whole lot of Jesus, Love, Passion, Seeking, Intention, Boldness, Dreaming BIG, and Living the GOOD Life! I’m still pondering my word for 2014 – one that encompasses everything I’ve mentioned already… Praying God will reveal it to me over the next couple days!

This post is just what I needed to help me clarify my goals for 2014. Lara you help so many women. Thanks for all that you do.

Surrender! Letting God take over in every aspect of my life. I have a word every year and I was praying about it one night and it came to me. I found it odd and asked “Seriously, Lord is this truly my word for 2014? Really? Why?” I guess He wanted to give me a big “YES!” because I kept seeing the word “surrender” books, my devotionall, etc…literally EVERYWHERE. Then it was revealed to me why. If I surrender all- every expectation, every outcome, every hope, every goal or desire for my husband, for me, my business and our future – to God the minute it comes to me I don’t have to carry the burden of worry {I an a recovering worrier}. As long as I do all things to glorify God {especially when it’s a task I don’t want to do but must to make things happen} I know that He’s going to see me through! Worrying is like telling God you don’t have faith that He can make things happen for us when He’s the only one who truly can! So I gladly and happily will “SURRENDER ” all! Happy New Year Lara to you, Ari, and Grace !!! XO

    Graciousness.

I love thesaurus.com and synonyms for graciousness that directly apply to my word of the year are kindness, tact, cultivation, consideration, attentiveness and refinement. I love that word so much and I am excited to see it resonate in my life this year.

Love those encouragement postcards, Lara! I might have to go purchase those!! 😉

Still mulling over it, but am fairly sure that my word will be Peace. The Lord showed me in Philippians 4 today that true lasting peace, HIS peace, comes with a mind focused on him. My soul keeps coming back to a yearning for Peace. Everything that is in my vision and on my no/yes lists come from the desire to pursue HIS peace over my temporary peace.

My word (well I guess words) is live intentionally. 2013 was a hard year and I just coasted a long waiting for it to be over. I don’t feel like I have much to show for this year which makes me sad. I’m ready for 2014 and to make some great, happy memories! I also shared this on pinterest!

I keep coming back to the word “transformation”. God has already set me on a path of change, uprooting my life in a way that was painful but amazing at the same time. Now I need to put in the work to do the real permanent change… to transform from the old me to the new me… the me that would please Him. xo Lara! Hope you all have a wonderful trip!

Is there a way I could contact you? Email?

    • Lara on at

Hi! I’m off of email a lot now as I’m trying to finish my book in 30 days, but feel free to leave questions here if you have them! : )

  54. Amber H. on at

Lara, thank you SO MUCH for breaking this all into such manageable steps! 🙂

Where do you want to be when you’re 80?
When I look back on my life at 80, I want to be able to say that I’ve never stopped going on adventures, faced change and challenges with an open mind, and made an effort to enjoy and appreciate every day! I’d like to reflect back on my career and be proud of the work that I was able to accomplish and of the people I helped. I want to be able to say that I’ve developed a “honed” skill set and have a portfolio of projects that have challenged me and celebrate their success. I want to to be able to say that I have a loving and strong relationship with my husband and family. Last but not least, that I’ve valued memories and experiences over material goods.

In 2014, I am saying “NO” to:
    Clutter
    Negativity
    Comparing myself to others
    Too many projects
    Procrastination
    Buying knick-knacks
    No action
    Laziness
    Frustration
    Feeling overwhelmed
    Worry
    Time Suckers
    Gossips
    Jumping to conclusions

In 2014, I am saying “YES” to:
    Learning
Spending time with my family and friends
    Hard work
    New opportunities
    Love
    Giving
    Adventures
    Exercise and being healthy
    Fun!
    Focused projects
    Organizing
    Simplifying
    Completion
    Progress, not perfection
    Taking small steps
    Feeling satisfied
    Less browsing, more doing
    Embracing change & challenge

    MY WORD FOR 2014: PROGRESS!
There are 365 days in a year to move close to your goals, make each one of them count!

Seriously, you all are amazing and should b e so proud of the goals you have set for yourself!! 🙂

  58. Lara, all of this just makes me so happy. And oh my word, I would love to see Grace trying to doing pirouettes (and eventually grand jetés!) with you! So happy I got to hug you and that sweet little one in 2013. 🙂

  59. These exercises have been so eye opening. Before going through all the steps I had a totally different worked picked out for 2014. Now my word is “Purpose.” I want to live with purpose and also find God’s special purpose for me.

  60. Mel on at

    What I’m saying YES to:
    * Time with God
    * Quiet time
    * Exercise (5 out of 7 days)
    * Healthy eating (allowing myself to order online if that is going to limit my temptations when at the shops)
    * Study time for my course
    * Artistic flair & passion
    * Family Time
    * Positive & uplifting friendships/relationships

    My word for 2014: FREE
    – I want to feel free to follow the desires of my heart, free to do what I feel is right for me and my family, free to worship and be with God no matter the situation, free to let relationships grow, free to be and live healthy and free to think positively 🙂

Loving this series, I’m finally seeing a bright and action filled 2014 coming into view.

my word for 2014 is Loved. i’m praying that a great shift will begin in my heart this year, one that leads me to identify myself and my progress by God’s great and unending love for me INSTEAD of fear, shame, guilt and anything that is built upon those feelings as motivators.

  62. my word for 2014: abide

  63. Megan A on at

Continuing to love this! This step will take me longest, I think. I have focused so much on what wasn’t working that I needed to focus on what I wanted to happen!

  64. Katie on at

This is the year I NOURISH. As I drove to a yoga retreat this fall, I asked God to help me set an intention for the upcoming year and this word came clearly. I spent the retreat reading the Word and understanding the many ways I was to embrace this purpose in the year ahead. Seeking nourishment for myself, so that I can truly serve those around me with that same sweet nourishment. “If you give, you will get! Your gift will return to you in full and overflowing measure, pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, and running over.” Luke 6:38 TLB

  65. Stephanie on at

My word for 2014 is LESS. Less of everything that I do wrong, that didn’t work in the past, that pulls me back, that clutters my life. Less work. To do everything better. Have a great 2014, Lara!

  67. Jess on at

My vision for 2014: In 2014, I will count on the blessings before they come, believing in the promises God has given me–despite the fact that the harvest has yet to arrive. I will see my battles as blessings that God is using to bring me closer to Him. I will remember that the best is yet to come and that He is always with me. I will live through 2014 with intentionality and purpose, while also being reminded that His grace covers me when I fall.

    My word for 2014: Harvest.

    • Megan on at

      Love This!

  68. Lara, I’ve always loved your goal setting series. It really makes me think about what the next year will look like! Here are some of my 2014 goals!
    —–
I will say NO to fear, negativity and self-doubt.
To always feeling like I need to please people.
To jobs that don’t align with the vision for my business.
I’m also saying NO to mindless internet time.
    And to carbs. (baha. jk.)
    —-
I’ll say YES to new opportunities and friendships.
To a renewed love for Jesus.
    To having trust without borders.
YES to being present in whatever situation I’m in.
And to being intentional with the decisions I make.
    —-
And my one word is PRESENT. Soaking up what’s in front of me. Realizing all the blessings around me. Not being distracted by what everyone else is doing, but focusing on what I need to do.

  69. Kiara on at

All the way from The Bahamas, i just want to say THANK YOU! Your journey, your blogs and IG is always encouraging and has been helping me to focus.

Happy New Year! My word for this year is GROW! It sums up everything I feel I need and want to accomplish this year spiritually, personally + professionally.

  72. Mollie on at

    My 2014 vision:
Live a life of abundance, not excess.
Allow your confidence and focus to produce results, kicking worry to the curb.
Continue to build and strengthen the relationships with people who bring so much joy to your life.
Take leaps of faith, knowing if you commit your way to the Lord, He will act.
In 2014, trust in the Lord and do good.

My word for 2014 is TRUST, coming from the Bible verses I picked for this year: Psalm 37:3-6.

PS — I LOVE those postcards! Sending snail mail to “long distance” friends is one of my favorite things to do, so I’m going to have to get some!

  73. This series has been SO good for this anti-resolution girl. 🙂
My word, INTENTION, came screaming out of the quiet at me. The things that didn’t work last year were mainly because there wasn’t intention…just talk. Or I was coasting. I can talk so passionately about not wasting my life, but as the minutes go by, I realize that talk is just that.

The antonyms for my word were just as compelling: indefinite, soft, trivial, unconcerned, undecided, unenthusiastic, unfixed, unstable, weak, distracted, irresolute. <— easily coasting towards a wasted life.

Praying for a year that reflects the heart of Jesus right before His crucifixion…"for the JOY set before Him…"

    Thanks so much, Lara.

  74. Bobbie on at

2014 vision can be summed up in one sentiment: : I want to take care of everything I am responsible for and do it well.

  75. Elizabeth on at

Writing out my vision for 2014 and what I’m saying “yes” and “no” to came quickly, but a word for the year was a challenge. I kept thinking about it and reviewing what I had written and what’s on my heart. A couple words came to mind, but after praying about it, the answer was SURRENDER. Seriously, surrender. God knows this is where I’ve struggled. A total type A personality who desires complete order and control, this has been a weak point for me. Surrender. Surrender to His plan, His will. His timing. I want and need to continually align myself with the word of truth. I need to surrender self-doubt and fear, comparisons and negative thinking and take on His vision for my life. Will I still pursue my dreams? You bet! But I want to keep in check with Him and in no way allow my dreams and ambitions to overshadow His plan for my life. His ways and thoughts and plans are so much greater than my own. I want to see things and see others as the Father sees them and surrender my heart (and all its desires) to His leading. The desires I have, the talents and skills that I have are here for a reason. I am where I am for a reason. I want to use what I have to serve and be a blessing to others and ultimately bring Him glory. For me, it all starts with surrender.

  76. Addendum! I am editing my word from “fearless” to BRAVE. I don’t like how “fearless” still has the word fear in it–it still holds a negative connotation for me. So, my 2014 word is BRAVE!

    • Amy W. on at

Jessi! I chose the word BRAVE last year. Be ye warned that choosing this word will in effect cause you to do things you never thought possible. There were countless times I was in a nervewracking, or hard situation and I’d remember my commitment to myself to choose bravery. It will make such a difference for you. Good luck in your quest and always be BRAVE!

  77. Bobbie on at

    and I pinned this post!!

  78. Victoria B on at

1/1/14 Step Seven: What is your 2014 VISION?
This year I want to focus less on stuff and more on strengthening relationships. All types of relationships. Marriage, friendship, and family. I see myself touching base more and chatting on the phone. Hearing about friends far away and around the corner. To give my time and thoughts to others.
Maybe more importantly I want to begin the journey to prepare for our future family. I am going to be healthy to get my body ready. Health, eating, exercise. Also financially. I see my spending cut drastically and more saving. Our goal is to have $30,000 in savings for an emergency fund. We are 1/3 the way there. I hope to be close to 75% there by next year. I need a new car so that will be an extra cost but I think we can do it. I don’t want to put any more money into my current car.
2014 is the year I learn to open my heart.

Step Eight: What are you saying NO to in 2014?
    Shopping and unnecessary STUFF
    Mindless tv watching
    Sitting around for too long
    Turning people’s invitations down
    Clutter
    Facebook
    Getting frustrated with people

Step Nine: What are you saying YES to in 2014?
    Friends
    Reading
    Adventures
    Travel
    Exercise and being healthy
    Game nights and dinner parties
    Opening my heart
    Dance breaks
    Date nights
    Volunteering

My Word of 2014 is VULNERABLE. Vulnerable has a pretty negative definition, but to me it means opening my heart to others. Without that ability to feel or get hurt, you can never truly get to know somebody. It’s the reason why my strong relationships are just that: strong. There is so much love in being vulnerable. I just want to love on others.

  79. Bailey on at

My word for 2014 : STEWARDSHIP. I need to become a better steward of my time & talents. Instead of making excuses (such as, “But so-and-so has already photographed/blogged this/created something similar,”), I must see the intrinsic value in my expressing my own unique voice. I hope to encourage others to do the same along with me!

  80. Shannon Heiling on at

    my 2014 word – ROOTED!

    • Shannon Heiling on at

The latter part of this year I feel like He is teaching me to “Be rooted in Him with heart abandoned.”

  81. Shannon Heiling on at

    -patience
    -kindness
    -Roots in our home
    -family unit
-intimacy; in all aspects of our marriage
    -soaking up the sun
-Intimacy with my Father; remembering How He Loves!

    • Kyra on at

I love your ‘stressful Sundays vs. Sabbath’. I definitely need to borrow this for my own list. It’s hard for me to balance preparation for the week with honoring the Sabbath day. Good luck to you!

  82. My word for 2014 is INVEST! My goals range from working on my marriage, personal bible study, health, business, and friendships. Achieving the dreams I have in each area will take INVESTMENT of time, brain power, meaningful conversation, and work that doesn’t necessarily bring quick results. I can’t wait to put this word all over the place and staying determined to INVEST in my dreams daily, even in the little ways. I know that eventually there will be an incredible outcome and a blessing to enjoy!

Vision for 2014 = purposeful planning

    No in 2014

    Prayer
    Gardening to give away
    Couponing to give away
    Simple entertaining
Getting to know the Asian Americans at church

  84. Whew! I’m feeling energized! This has probably been my favorite day of goal setting.

My vision (the short version): I want to become closer to the Lord so He can guide me. I’m done living for myself and want to live for Him. I want to give more of myself. I want to experience more moments instead of being distracted by worries, to do lists, and social media. I know God has called me to many things to help make marriages better. I also feel called to help women stay at home with their kids (something I want in the future as well – probably running a home-based business), so I wont’ to explore this more this year as well.

What I am saying “no” to:
    – Phone before bed/upon waking up
    – Excuses for eating right/exercising
    – Idle distractions
    – Pressure to be who I’m not
    – Comparison
    – Mindless Facebook browsing
    – Complaining
    – Fear
    – Clutter (physical and mental)
    – Materialism
    – Frequent indulgences
    – Over-filling my plate (literally and figuratively)
    – Not being cautious when taking on projects
    – Quick, snap decisions
    – Anger

What I am saying “yes” to:
    – Time with God every day (and an ongoing conversation throughout the day)
    – Un-interrupted/distracted time with my husband (no phones!)
    – Living in the moment
    – Reflective decisions
    – Simplicity
    – Organization
    – Things that set me on fire
    – Getting rid of debt
    – Challenging myself (probably a monthly challenge)
    – Eating lots of fruits and veggies
    – Following The Daniel Plan
    – Dates with friends
    – Gratitude journal
    – Journaling
    – Reading
    – Building my photography business
    – Exercising 4+ days/week
    – Memorizing scriptures
    – Spreading passion about marriage
    – Optimism and hope
    – Photographing my life

My word of the year: REFRESH
Last year pushed me back in so many areas of my life. I’m ready to hit the “refresh” button this year by focusing on my priorities, resting, simplifying, and living in the moment. I want a fresh, clean, healthy version of myself to emerge this year. I want to eat fresh foods, come up with fresh ideas, and have a fresh outlook on life and the Lord. This word just screams “brightness” to me when last year felt pretty dark. I’m so excited!

  86. Lara M on at

I’ve got the 3 S’s: Simplify, Surrender, Sacrifice. My verse is Romans 12:10.

I am going to be more of a yes mom, less of a me friend. More of a grinner and less of a worrier (it doesn’t give us more time, anyway). More of a writer and sharer, less of a blogger. More intentional and less distracted. More unplugged and less unfocused.

2014 is the year I will open my hands and be grateful and joyful and willing.

  87. Jenn P on at

Oh my goodness, I started working on these from step 3 tonight with a heavy heart and ‘meh’ attitude, but I have gotten so fired up and uplifted in the process! Last year my word was Love and I don’t think that will ever change at my core, but I made a point to find a new word for a new year. In working through everything and ‘pinning my heart’ here (https://www.pinterest.com/jpocho929/making-things-happen-in-2014/) with a few links to these posts to encourage people, I have finally found it!
The word that keeps coming to mind for me in 2014 is INVEST- in my relationships, by budding business and the ground work for that, in our future home and family, in my marriage, in paying off debt, in my faith and every aspect of life. And you know what else? Those postcards are so perfect!! I will be investing in those too! I absolutely LOVE sending snail mail encouragement to people. Thanks for making products that truly affect positive change and encouragement for others! Happy 2014!!

My word for 2014 is FLOURISH!

  91. FEUZA on at

hard to have one word, it would be breakthrough but honestly ist obedience and quietness I need to hear God way more as this is the year I am finally back at a church and volunteering to serve. I need peach in my life as their has been some recent turbulence that caused depression and imsonia to creep back up on me. I am saying yes to ORGANIZATION, OBEDIENCE, GOD’S WORD, DEVOTIONALS, MINISTRY, SIMPLE MOM MOMENTS, BETTER LISTENING, BEING A GREAT COMPANION, financial freedom, loving the challenges an these posts, thank you and happy new year, I may rethink my 2014 word, xoxo

  92. Holly on at

My word for 2014 is simplify. We have a baby due in 2 weeks so this may seem a little crazy to be wanting to simplify our lives but to me it seems like the best time. I want to simplify everything else in our lives so I can focus on our family, our newborn, my friendships and my relationship with God.

    • Lara on at

Yay Holly! Praying for your new arrival coming soon!

  93. Caroline on at

I want to say yes to :
    1. accepting constructive criticism more openly
    2. showing grace to others
    3. giving others the benefit of the doubt more often
    4. just plain doing things HIS way, not mine!
    5. drinking more water

Sounds great! Since I get these questions a lot and can’t give everyone a one-size-fits-all answer, I answer them in consulting sessions. I’d be happy to book one with you in March when I start sessions again. Details on LaraCasey.com/consulting : ) I’m excited for you!

My word for 2014 is AUTHENTIC. I need to completely step away from trying to be “other” people and follow the journey God already created for me. He made me who I am (dreams, passion, talents, etc.) for a reason and this year I am going to embrace that.

    P.S. I pinned this post!

  100. Anna on at

My word is BALANCE, I will find balance in every aspect of my life, from time with my kids, focus at work, meals and prep time, balance pysically, and balance even in my inner reflection. Thank you for your posts, and inspiration…..It’s exactly what I need right now.

  101. Sontera on at

I’m thinking my word for 2014 will be ACTION and/or PRESENT.
In 2014 I’m saying NO to procrastination! That is where the word ACTION comes into play. But I also want to work on being present in every moment. Not always thinking what I have to do next or where i need to be going. 2013 seriously flew by, I don’t want 2014 to be a blur.

  102. Carson on at

I had to pick two words because one was just not substantial enough for my hopes. My two words are “Hearken” and “Cherish”. The dictionary meanings are beautifully appropriate.
Hearken: (v) To give heed or listen
Cherish: (v) To love, hold, or treat as dear; to care for tenderly, nurture.

There are so many ways these two words fits into my hope for the year, but I will let them be the sum alone, otherwise I would be adding too many words.

  103. My phrase (I couldn’t pick one word just now) is “goodness & light”. Last year it took a good seven months until I could really find the word that resonated with me enough to be my intention for the year (and for my life in general), so I’m going to start with goodness and light and work my way from there:)

  104. Jenni Roeller on at

LAUGH. That is my word. I never laugh anymore. Like genuinely laugh out loud. This is the year for fun and laughter and peace

  105. Megan Horner on at

This series has such great goal setting guidance! I’m loving it! I’ll have to do some thinking for a good word for 2014! Also, pinned this post 🙂

  106. Ashley on at

Vision: I want to do something that I love each and every day. I want to provide a positive impact on society no matter how big (or small) it may be. I want to help, motivate and inspire others. I want to show that if I can do it then anyone can do it. I want to be successful at relationships especially my family, friends, and future spouse as these individuals are such an important aspect of my life. I want to continue to grow within myself to be the best person I can be and live out God’s path for me.

Saying “No” to: settling, stress, anxiety, fear, overwhelmingness, laziness, doubt, pleasing others, not listening.

Saying “Yes” to: following my heart, prayer, healthy living, dating and relationships, traveling, new experiences, growing my faith, helping others, living God’s will.

My word: Believe. For me, 2014 will be a year of believing – believing in God, myself, my dreams and goals, my family and friends, others.

  107. AdrienneLeigh on at

After pre-ordering my Powersheets and receiving them almost a month ago, I was still waiting for God’s direction on my word for the year- and today it manifested itself to me. The common thread through all my possible words and phrases was actually so simple- HONOR. I will strive to focus my attention on honor in its various forms- first and foremost –
    : one whose worth brings respect or fame {bringing this to God and making Him known through my words, deeds, priorities, etc}

    : chastity, purity {I will strive to purify my mouth, which tends to resemble that of a sailors}

    : one’s word given as a guarantee of performance {being impeccible with my word, honoring my time and others}

    : privilege {I will treat myself as a daughter of the Almighty. I’ll honor what he has given to me. I won’t settle for good or right now. I’ll handle myself as a woman coming into a rich inheritance- gracefully, gently, confidently.}

Thanks everyone for sharing your words and challenges and priorities here. Thank you Lara for blessing me and many with your giftedness,

I have never really been a believer in “resolutions” until I read your blog. You are such an inspiration for new Christians!

I had been thinking about this before I came to read your blog and I had decided my focus this year was going to be on “follow-through”. Really committing myself to get to that finish line by only setting myself 1-3 goals at a time.

I am desperately trying to keep myself on track with reading the Word. If you have any plans that you have found helpful, I would love to hear any suggestions!

    • Lara on at

Hi Nadia! There are lots of great reading plans on the YouVersion app (available for most devices) and you can use it online too – bible.com I think. A few I have done and loved – Soul Detox, anything by Joyce Meyer, and there are lots more! I’m excited for you!!

It is scary to do and then we don’t do it and get so frustrated we didn’t. We will all be thankful you did when we read that amazing book that you were able to right instead of sending out response emails. This just reminds me that I CAN do the things I want. It just takes work and discipline to do it!!

My word for 2014 is BALANCE. I lived enough to know how life issues need to be balanced. I tend to give much attention to some parts of my daily activities and procrastinate others. Now I must learn how to give attention to things equally or at least try to. Last year I completely dedicated myself to work and it was sometimes abusive. Certain people tend to take advantage of our efforts. My personal life, my family life need more attention and this year I expect to catch up on that.

    Warm hugs!

  117. Machelle on at

    Saying NO to:
    – stress
    – worry
    – toxic thoughts
    – relying on myself
    Saying YES to:
    – The LORD
    – Joy
    – Reading the Bible more
    – God’s will
    – Intentional time with others
    – Creativity
    – Taking Risks

My word for 2014 is: Confidence
I want to live this year having confidence in the Lord, his plan and direction, confidence in my husband, and confidence in myself. I will not live a life in fear of failure, but a life confident in the one who will pick me up if I do.

  118. Kyla F on at

    My 2014 Vision

I want to live each day fully, with a heart filled of gratitude and intention. I want to know that I gave my best every single day, even if ‘my best’ meant surrendering it all to God and resting in his presence. I want to live a fun life, taking initiative to do fun things and to get myself out of the house or doing fun things at home. I want to lose the rest of my excess weight, tone, and strengthen my body to be the very best that it can be. I want to come to peace with my back pain and not see it is a ‘hand I have been dealt.’ While I know I am not perfect and will make mistakes, I want to seek wisdom and do more of what I should do and less of what I shouldn’t. I want to speak life. I want to drink lots of clean water. I want to start each day in God’s presence, filling my heart and mind with His truths and seeking his plan. I want the roots of my faith to be so deep that storms and burdens cannot shake it. I want each step I take to be guided by the Holy Spirit. I want to overcome my herniated disc, whether it be through patience or surgery, or both. I want to blog and create and get my ideas out of my head and onto the page. I want to work hard at creating inspiring products for my Etsy shop and enjoy this stepping stone to my creative dreams. If it is not meant for my shop to eventually be my main source of income, I want to find an internship or job that challenges me but makes my heart sing, allowing me to create and inspire others and work with people who are encouraging and passionate about life. I want to love Jesus without abandon and to refuse to let earthly problems weigh me down. I want to make 2014 matter.

Based on my vision, this year I am saying “no” to:

    Dwelling in worry and fear
    Clutter, both physical and mental
Meaningless social media and shallow texting conversations
    Processed food
Letting my emotions get out of control or be influenced by things I can’t control
Doing what I know I shouldn’t do, or sitting idly by when there is something I know I should be doing
Comparing myself to others or criticizing myself for not being on the traditional college path
    I’m saying ‘yes’ to:

Putting God first and starting each day in scripture and prayer
Putting one foot in front of the other and resting in God’s grace even in the thick of it
More real conversation, like beloved coffee-shop talks with friends, being present, and being a better listener
Loving others more fully and appreciating what makes them unique
    Simplifying and de-cluttering
    Whole, clean foods
Patience in all aspects of my life
Being quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger
Focus, direction, and intentional actions and use of time
    Gratitude

My word for 2014 is JOY. 2013 I beat myself up and lost so much of my confidence and true joy. I have lots to be joyful about, but it all starts with loving God and yourself. SO, 2014 is the year I TRULY LOVE MYSELF and find that true joy inside of me. Emily wrote a little on this and what rang out to me for this year was: “more soulful JOY, less bursts of happiness.” That is how I want to live so that I can share it with others. “…For the Joy of the LORD is our strength.” Nehemiah 8:10

My word for 2014 is INTENTIONAL. I want my time, words, and actions to be filled with intention instead of mindless activities (i.e. Netflix, Facebook) that keep me from achieving the purpose that’s been laid out for me.

My word makes me think of this quote by Mary Anne Radmacher (sp?) (really, this whole thing could be my words to live by in 2014):

    “Live with intention.
    Walk to the edge.
    Listen Hard.
    Practice wellness.
    Play with abandon.
    Laugh.
    Choose with no regret.
    Appreciate your friends.
    Continue to learn.
    Do what you love.
Live as if this is all there is.”

I’m new & behind..but I’ve been blessed to be home sick with a bad cold the passed few days & it has allowed time for reading, a looot of writing & catching up on 2014-Making It Happen & Setting Goals! I’ve finally chosen my word tonight, after it kept coming back up & kept coming back up. My word for 2014 is CAPACITY. Definitions: the amount that something can produce..the ability or power to do, experience, or understand…a specified role or position…the amount in which something can contain, receive or absorb… CAPACITY resonates with me b/c 2013 was spent often falling short, feeling overwhelmed, easily overloaded, making excuses, & feeling as though I didn’t have the capacity to accomplish things. Looking back I realize I was trying 95% of the time to do things apart from Him/ on my own/ without praying or seeking His guidance. Granted.. I can do nothing apart from Him..& I sure don’t have a lot to show for 2013 having tried to do so much via my own plan/ efforts. Mostly just a lot of questions that I’ve tried answering on my own..& failed. In 2014, I pray that He equips me with CAPACITY to love, accomplish & do way beyond what I am capable of on my own. & way beyond what I thought possible for His purpose.

-My desire to keep everyone else happy ALL the time
-Social media’s ever looming control and influence

    -Weekly, focused temple attendance
    -Persistance and proactivity in dating
    -A strict but do-able budget
    -Time without technology
-Pushing myself physically to become stronger, healthier and more balanced.
    -Spending time outdoors exploring
-Continued work life balance and being focused, committed and purposeful in both.
    -Being present
    -Moving on and letting go
    -Travel!
    -Faith. Bravery. Courage.
    -TRUSTING God.
-Learning new talents and revitalizing a few old ones

2013 was a year of ROYALTY. We discovered our rights and privileges as a son and daughter of Christ. We returned to noble esteem and uncovered our true selves, abandoning fears and false beliefs, and adopting God’s view of our calling.

2014 is a year of PURSUIT. I want to pursue love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, and self-control. I want to pursue healthy and life-giving relationships with those who matter — husband, family members, our team, BFF’s, and women I cherish. We continue to pursue health and wholeness physically, emotionally and spiritually. Moving from places of limitation to new territory,” we are pursuing the vision and dreams that have been brewing for years >> we are branding our business, and crafting a ministry serving cross-cultural missions workers.

Some things to say NO to in 2014:
*Feeling discouraged about what we do not have yet.
*Reactive (or radioactive) communication, including tantrums, fits, lashing out, accusation and blame.
*One’s lack of planning that constitutes an emergency on my part. Say NO to emergencies that are not my responsibility and/or take away from my core responsibilities.
*Over-spending, under-saving. Lack of financial margin.
*I like what Sameh adds – “Anger, laziness, un-forgiveness, bitterness, doubt & unbelief.”

Some things to say YES to in 2014:
*Walking in my own story more than any other person’s story.
*Sabbath Sundays, and the big rocks in our week: family devotional/prayer, date nights, exercise, life group / community night, and guy-girl time.
*Living contentedly, whether we’ve got a room or our own house.
*Loving with courage, not shrinking with passivity.
*Blogging intentionally and consistently about WHAT MATTERS.
*Focused work hours where we work on WHAT MATTERS.
*Our budget and spending plan; build an emergency savings fund, tithe 10%; develop 5 streams of income.
*Getting professional consultation with branding, legal matters, and media development/collateral. (Praying for the right team to help us.)
*Approaching partners, volunteers and team members with clear vision and proposal.
*Launching Boutique1040.com (one aspect of our business), whether or not our stuff is perfect. (Ah, I said it publicly.) Quoting Lara, “DONE is better than perfect.” 🙂
*Pressing into the Bible, God’s presence and Jesus who will truly fill me and guide me.

Nourish Vivi. Supply with what is necessary for life, health, and growth physically, spiritually and mentally.
Nourish my marriage. Cherish and foster Tyler and I’s relationship. Give of myself to do this.
Nourish VMP. Strengthen and build up to a strong successful brand.
Nourish my body. Discipline myself so I can enjoy all the benefits of healthy living.

I love how a vision overshadows and grows out of all of my goals! It’s not just listing goals–like get better at meal planning or be less critical. Rather it’s thinking about who I want to be as a person.

I’ve been thinking for weeks about my one word. My word this year is: play. It seemed strange but kept coming up again and again. I blogged about it here: https://pilgrimsandals.wordpress.com/2014/01/04/my-one-word-for-2014/

  130. My FOCUS & PURPOSEFUL word for 2014 is MULTI-PASSIONATE! I feel like this word was “brought” to me because I have so much to accomplish within this time period and I am up for the accomplishments. November 1st I started a 14 month journey to receive and/or reclaim everything which has been stolen from me through various actions. I am grateful to share that 65 days in I am grateful. 😉

I am a bit behind, but I am enjoying this series SO much and can see why so many fellow bloggers have been raving about this! It’s been great sharing these steps on the blog so I can be held accountable and have friends cheering me on along the way.

My word is DELIGHT. I want to delight in Jesus first of all, because then I can experience the delight of things around me too {Psalms 37:4}. When I delight in Him, I have an attitude of joyful thanksgiving instead of self-pity, anxiety, and jealousy of other’s circumstances. So, I choose to delight in Jesus and all He has placed in my life, including my job, family, friends, my cute little apartment, my traveling in 2014, and the trail by my apartment I love running on. I choose delight!

My word for 2014 is INTENTIONAL. I’m determined to no longer “float” along in my life, but to be intentional with my time, my words, my business, everything. By being intentional with everything I do, I am going to go from just “floating” along in my life, to soaring!

  136. Amanda on at

My word for 2014 is PURPOSE. So much of 2013 felt like just going through the motions. Living one day trying to get to the next. I want to enjoy each moment of 2014- good or bad- and live out this year with purpose in every facet. Intentionally seeking out joy in all circumstances and trusting God to provide for me instead of spending my days anxious about little things.

CORE WORD OF 2014 : TRANSFORMATION

  138. Tessy on at

In many ways 2014 will be a year of re-building for me. A year to find the new song/path that God has for not just me, but my family. If God chooses it to be another year of wandering, to be content with that. Yes, content. That means TRUSTING Him more. I think more then ever I have come to realize that my life is just a vapor and I need to live it more intentional. Intentional to me is putting love in action in a lot of small things through out the year.

Intentionally Trusting…. would be my theme. No matter the circumstance. In the big and small. I need to trust.

  139. Tessy on at

CORE WORD: TRUST — I want to be intentional with trusting God in all aspects of my life. I think being intentional will only work if I do the work of TRUSTING.

  140. Gabrielle on at

My word for 2014 is: bravery. I am so tired of living my life in fear or letting fear be my excuse for not doing something or trying something…so what is the opposite of being fearful? being brave!!! and that’s what I am going to be in 2014.

  141. M DeJean on at

    * What kind of life do you want to live this year? One with no “woulda, coulda, shoulda”
    * Where do you want to be when you’re 80? Bodybuilding with my husband and children and grand children.
    * WHY do you do what you do? For the love and well being of my family.
    * What is your mission? To please God. To be the Proverbs 31 Virtuous Woman
    * What is your CORE? FAMILY….A HAPPY WELL TAKEN CARE OF FAMILY
    * If you could envision your best year yet, what does that look like? Raising healthy, happy, God fearing children, a happy husband, and a happy home. A thriving creative home based business. Time to volunteer…maybe teaching something l love doing. My husband providing for his girls in excess (humbly so), Living in Tenn. Spending quality time with family…pregnant.
    * 2014 is the year I (fill in your blank): Become a work from home mom.

  142. Xio on at

I am loving this series!! My word for this year is PURPOSEFUL!

  143. Katie on at

My word for 2014 is vulnerable. Vulnerable to my husband, to my friends, to strangers who may become new friends, to my blog to expose sin, to fellow strugglers in the battle with me.
My vision is to so fully fixated on Jesus that Joey and I become more one than last year, that I prioritize a future child well, that I remember God put me on mission in 2013 to write (and in 2014 speak)on freedom of how good food is and how great our God is.
I will say no to getting up late, addiction to social media, internet isolation, clutter, overthinking social interactions, pride, lack of dependence on God.
I will say Yes to double dates, time with new and old girl friends, kissing my husband, being inconvenienced, new opportunities to speak, quiet time with God, being discipled, cooking for others. Thank you Lara for these resources!

    • Lara on at

I love this Katie! I need to say yes to being discipled too : )

  144. Abby on at

Jeremiah 29:13 says, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with your whole heart.” This year I’m saying yes to being a whole hearted, passionate seeker of Christ and of who he’s called me to be. Saying yes to the passions and desires he’s given me and no to the distractions and excuses I let get in the way.

  145. Melissa on at

Step 7. What kind of life do I want to live? I want one that is authentic and intentional, one that inspires through words and action, a health life, and a life full of elegance meaning that how I present myself will be a reflection of my core.

When I’m 80 I want to be exploring the world with my future husband, hosting family get togethers, and still being a source of encouragement to others.

My mission is to encourage and inspire others so that they feel loved, important, and empowered to achieve their dreams.

2014 is the year I SHINE BRIGHT! Meaning I love myself more so that I am able to help others better. This means being fearless and focused. Being the woman I want to be today and not waiting for a magical moment in the future. Refining myself by pulling away layers so that my true core can shine.

Step 8. I’m saying NO to people that don’t treat me with respect. I’m saying no to negative thoughts, people, and energy. I’m saying no to wasting time on social media.

Step 9. I’m saying YES to Chicago, eating clean, showing compassion, exercising, being my own best friend, creating a job that I love, spending more time with my sisters, sending more notes of encouragement, and showing love.

My word for 2014 is PRODUCTIVE. 2013 i was so lazy and did nothing good for myself and my future. I want to change that. Even tho i am still in college and i still have time i want to start investing in my future. I know i could start a little business or just do random jobs. I want to do that in 2014. I can do so much more than i am doing right now and all the last years. Its time to get up my butt and be productive. 🙂

My word is LOVE- I want to do everything out of love. I want my leadership to be Christ centered , to not have negative feelings towards others, to live a fuller life in the present, and all of this comes from Loving others as Christ does. If I’m busy loving others and doing things out of love there won’t be room for the negative:) Love Does-one of the best books I’ve read!

Thanks for the giveaway! I’ve made a Pinterest board and tweeted about ‘Making Things Happen 2014’. Its really motivating and inspiring! I got married last July and graduated the same month, so all these goodies would be perfect to help me organise my goals and life with my husband!!

    My word is BREATHE.

I have felt so convicted the last couple weeks that this is the word for my 2014. It is active. It’s a verb. Air. It’s instinctive. It means giving life. It means pausing and resting. It is natural. It means to LIVE. It means feeling free of restraint. And my anxieties. It means developing flavor and bouquet.

2013 brought me breath through my nose. Quite literally. Breath to be breathed. In 2014.

Happy Friday! 🙂 Pinning part 3 of the goal setting series to my MTH in 2014 board on Pinterest, here: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/175288610470551679/

My word for 2014 is intentional. As I’ve Belem mulling over these steps the one word God kept bringing to mind was intentional. The thing He put on my heart to do and press into this year …. I want to make them happen by deciding to do them!!!

WOW! Lara, I leave this blog every time I visit with such a renewed sense of self and of God and how He is working in my life. You are a BLESSING to me and everyone you touch!

I am praying about what my word for 2014 should be. In reading your posts I look back over 2013 and it brings up so MANY emotions. I actually ordered your powersheets in July (along with the 2013 simplified planner from Emily Ley) and filled them out and before I ever really got started with them my life took some crazy turns. I went through one of the most difficult times in my life…struggles with my marriage (amazed that we made it through–I read your story about your own marriage and it helped me SO much)…I lost my job and decided to try to start the new year working for myself and it is scary! Its been a huge leap of faith and I pray that God will continue to lead me in the way I should go!

I shared this on Pinterest, Instagram and Facebook…I hope that friends and followers will find your blog and be as blessed as I have been! I hope I can enrich women’s lives as you have through my own business!

    Love and blessings,
    Michelle B 😉

My word for 2014 is AUTHENTICITY. Not just in an “i’ma do me”/Beyonce kind of way, and definitely not in a Miley kind of way. This is more to contribute to the balance in my life. When I am overstimulated by other people’s journeys, I beat myself up for the place that I am in right now. I want to be authentic in this very moment that God has crafted for me. My verse for this year is Esther 4:14, “For who knows if you have not come to the Kingdom for such a time as this?” My timeline is not anyone else’s timeline. I want to learn as much as possible, but go at a pace that is true to the woman God wants me to grow into.

  168. Jasmin Howell on at

Lara – I am on the brink, the very beginnings of launching into new and uncharted territory…I have always dreamed of coming alongside other writers and giving them the gift of editing, consulting and creativity to launch their Master’s thesis’, website content, magazine article etc. in a way that is encouraging, constructive and hopeful. I am a former English teacher, part-time blogger, Communications contractor and creative writer with big dreams and a lot of fear…namely, a mixture of excitement and trepidation to start my own business! Coming to your website, listening to your powersheets Webinar today, doing some goal-setting and allowing myself to dream again has been refreshing. Your phrase ” Go & Do” is sticking to my heart and is so inline with the Bible’s commands to not be idle. So thank you for dreaming and forging a path for others to follow.

    • Lara on at

Thank you so much for this encouragement Jasmin. I am cheering you on in all of this! God is good!

My core word for 2014 is REINVENTION – I posted it to pinterest!

  172. Salinda on at

2014 is the year that my relationship with Christ comes first, my marriage second, my kids third, others fourth, and self last.

I’m saying no to procrastination, gossip, blame, an “it’s-not-my-job” attitude, cynicism, sarcasm, assuming the hubby can read my mind, “knowing best”, and second guessing.

I’m saying yes to daily Bible time, saying “I love you” more, delegating, compassion, listening, being aware, and praise music.

My word for 2014 is {HOME}–my eternal Home, my marriage, my kids, and my 4-walled-home.

  173. Charlotte on at

Determined is my word. Determined to make things work. Through Christ.

  174. Yes, my one word for 2014 is CONTENT. During the month of December, I followed the suggestion of the fabulous Nancy Ray and put myself on a contentment challenge. You can read more about that here. In brief, I didn’t buy myself anything that I didn’t need. In the past two years, I’ve lost my desire to spend an hour clearing out the accessories section at my favorite boutique or eating out three or four times a week (THANK GOD!), but I still find myself drooling over the occasional small business goodie that pops up on my Instagram feed. I am addicted to buying new books (well, at least I actually read them), and I should probably have a Starbucks in the back of my house just to make things easier. Well, in December I managed to stay away from it all and stick to my new budgeting plan I was introduced to while taking an Influence Network class in November.

Even though the challenge opened my eyes to where some of my money was going and caused me to come in over $200 under budget by the end of the month (cha-ching!), that wasn’t the main point of the challenge.

I really wanted to spend time learning how to be content in the season of life God currently has me in, with everything He has blessed me with. I wanted to learn how to see even the smallest blessing, if even such a thing exists as “small blessings”, as well as learn how to see beauty in the painful parts of my life.

((More details about my word for the year cab be read on my blog, but I wanted to post the basics here 🙂 )) …love yall!

  175. Emily on at

My word for 2014 is gratitude. Since you shared “grateful November” last year my heart had been opened in ways that I never thought possible. I have prayed hard for the right word and gratitude continues to fall on my heart. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for me with this word.

In 2014 I will be saying yes to God. I will be reading the bible. I will pray more intentionally. I will be present in the moment. I will get outside more! I will explore my passion for lettering. I will invest in people and allow people to invest in me. I will open my heart to trust God’s plan for our family. I will worry less and pray more.

I am so grateful for this goal setting journey. God is truly working through you, Lara. Thank you!

I’m so inspired by my power sheets and finally working towards a life I’m excited about:) last years word was grace and for 2014 it’s PRUDENCE…and even more so present in this incredible life The Lord has given me:)

  179. Amanda on at

By the time I’m 80, I hope I’m content. I want to see a family connected closely, filled with grace and love for one another. Children shored up in faith in the Lord, living a life of obedience that’s marked by freedom in Christ. By the time I’m 80, I hope my business – Charmingly Modern – has grown to benefit my family and glorify my God. I want to have memories of involvement in our church, and be surrounded by friends. I want my life to be marked by hospitality and a generous spirit, to use the things we are blessed with to bless others. I want to see my husband and know that we served one another and lived out a testament in marriage like that of Christ’s love for his church. I want to pray constantly, to know the word of God as intimately as I know the sound of my son’s slumbering breath. I want a life that’s well lived in – soft, warm and with just the right amount of contentment mixed with passion.

And with all of that in mind, my vision for 2014 falls into three categories that make up my core.
God – a focus on glory and faith. I want my work and life to bring glory, as He is the only way I will achieve anything. I pray for boldness in testimony (something I struggled with in 2013…who am I kidding, I’ve struggled with it my entire Christian life), and a transparency that encourages sharing and connection.

Family – a focus on security and integrity. I want to contribute to our goals as a family. It excites me to be a part of growing our legacy and securing that legacy. I want to be an example to my son on a non-traditional approach to work, and an example of triumphing over the lack of focus that so often accompanies creative individuals. I was raised with an example of a self-made entrepreneur in my father, and self-sacrificial devotion in my mother. I want to balance those… my desire – burn, even – to DO something, to MAKE something with my desire to mother and serve my family.

Me – a focus on commitment and purpose. I used to call myself the place where dreams go to die. But I am not a failure. I need to separate my success from my dad’s, while appreciating and learning from his example. And in doing that, I can see my dreams have purpose and they have a timing and they have worth – I was created to strive for these things, for a reason. And this is my year to see those things happen. Finally.

My word for 2014 is COMMIT. I’m committed to showing the glory of God in my life, to acting on faith, to securing a legacy, to working with integrity, to vindicating my dreams, to a life with purpose.

I am a little late… But finding this process so amazing! I have taken many days to really think through and ponder these questions! I am so surprised what I have found out about myself and where I actually want to go in my life!

My word for 2014 is CLEAR. I moved to Norway with my husband from Australia 3 years ago. Those past 3 years have been just waiting to go back to Australia . Which has caused me to live my life so temporarily, confused and unfocused resulting in me losing much of myself… Anyhow I finally have reached a point where I realised that choosing to be here in Norway doesn’t mean I have to give up my ‘home’ in Australia, because it will always be home, instead I can have both but I must be committed to fully live wherever we are at that point in time. After that revelation it was like someone took off my blindfold and I could see all the great things I had been missing out on…. Anyway long answer but I stumbled across you and your blog at the perfect time! And I am just waiting for my power sheets to arrive! Thanks again,

  186. Shannon Thompson on at

My word for 2014 is PEACE. I have lived a lot of my life fearfully. I’m not a risk taker, but I wish I was! These last few years have been full of BIG changes for me and I’ve allowed myself to become riddled with anxiety and fear. I am ruled by them, and yet I am God’s girl, dearly loved and secure in Him. So this year is about trusting Him and living inside that peace that passes all understanding. I struggled for what my word should be…fearless? Trust? But God kept throwing the word Peace at me in His Word. And I can’t argue with that. 😉 So I’ve also picked Isaiah 26:3 to by my verse for the year….something new for me too. A word and a verse for the year!

“You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast because he trusts in you.” – Isaiah 26:3
